Library - Books are one’s best friend!

India International School in Japan has a well stocked library which is growing with every passing day along with the school. Children are taught to develop love for books and respect for Knowledge from early age. Our library has all kinds of colorful, illustrative and attractive books for the keen kindergarten readers like THE ABC SERIES.

For the Elementary students, The Ladybird Classics are there. To maintain the interest in reading we have a huge range which includes all The Goosebumps Series, The Magic Tree House Series, Enid Blyton, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes and others.

Hindi story books are additional attraction of our library and it also has a section on Indian epics, Myths and the Fables.

We have also both abridged and unabridged versions of some of the classics. Contemporary writers both serious and fun reading like Salman Rushdie, Jhumpa Lahiri, Chetan Bhagat, Jeffrey Archer, Sidney Sheldon, Ken Follet, Toni Morrison to name a few.

Reference material on SOCIAL SCIENCE, LAW, LITERATURE, BUSINESS and MEDICINE are also there. French language books are also there to help the students who have taken up French as their second language. Various journals and magazines and newspapers are also subscribed to complete the library.

Since we are living in a land where English books are rare, our library is open to parents also. They can check out the books anytime for their personal reading.

At IISJ in the serene and soothing environment of the library, children learn the art of reading for information, knowledge or simply for pleasure.

Computer Lab

Computer Science is taught as a compulsory subject that spans over the elementary, middle, secondary and senior secondary level. Several computer science electives are offered to senior secondary students.

Our Computer Lab is equipped with 40 computers and is open to all students from Grade 1 to Grade 12. All computers have access to applications for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, and programming in a variety of languages like LOGO, BASIC, HTML, C and C++. The computers are equipped with network access to allow students to explore the Internet.

There are a variety of specialized educational programs also installed in the computers. Students may work in the lab on subject-related projects, under the supervision of respective subject teachers.

Science is not only knowledge but also an art. This art is explored, experimented and practiced in Science labs.

Science Lab in IISJ is equipped with resources meant for Elementary, Middle, Secondary and Senior Secondary students.

Math Lab

Mathematics Laboratory is an important section of school where students perform syllabus based activities and projects. As per CBSE requirement IISJ encourages teachers and students to make use of Math Lab as much as possible in order to make learning of Mathematics more pragmatic and life oriented at the school level.

The main objectives of using Math Lab are:

  • Making teaching and learning of the subject interactive, participatory, fun filling and joyful from primary stage of schooling.
  • Strengthening the learning of mathematical concepts through concrete materials and hands-on-experiences.
  • Relating classroom learning to real life situations and discourage rote and mechanical learning.
  • Providing the tools and instruments for practical verification of mathematical concepts to students.
  • The fear for study of Mathematics should be diffused.
  • The learning of Mathematics should be made more pragmatic and life-oriented at the school level.
  • There is a need to improve the pedagogy in Mathematics to enhance analytical and critical thinking.
  • The learning of Mathematics could be linked with other subjects to develop interdisciplinary thinking.
  • The tools and instruments for practical verification of mathematical concepts could be locally designed by innovative methods.
  • The students could be evaluated on their mathematical skills by continuous and comprehensive evaluation.


At India International school in Japan, students at all levels are strongly encouraged to participate in various sports activities. The School uses the gymnasium for these activities. Sports are fun and offer students the opportunity to develop skills, make lasting friendships, and learn the values of discipline and sportsmanship. Sports are also important in order to promote physical fitness and competitiveness among students.

Sports such as soccer and basketball are introduced at the Elementary School level and continue until Senior Secondary level. Soccer is taken up in the first half of the school year where as the focus is on basketball for the other half.

Cricket is the most popular sport among Middle school, Secondary school and Senior Secondary school students at IISJ. IISJ Cricket team known as Phoenix practices twice a week and on weekends play matches against other teams.

Middle School and Senior Secondary School students have the opportunity to enjoy other sports such as badminton, dodge ball, softball, etc. as part of CCE Program recently introduced by Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi.

The School has highly skilled coaches for training the students in these sports and students take immense interest in their performance. We are in the process arranging inter school competition for the sports played at our school.
